The school will take place in the university town of Tartu, Estonia, September 11-21, 2017, which lies 2,5 hours from Tallinn by buss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The school is aimed as an introduction for starting Ph.D. students and covers an introduction to neutron scattering, with the topics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Principles of scattering and neutron instrumentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diffraction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small-angle scattering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reflectivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Imaging<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inelastic scattering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quasielastic scattering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Magnetic diffraction and inelastic scattering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use of polarized neutrons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, there will be inspirational lectures on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Neutrons for Life science<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neutrons for energy materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neutrons for industry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neutrons for quantum materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scientific possibilities at ESS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A coherent set of lecture notes will be available, and there will be frequent use of e-learning for practical\u2019s.<br>&nbsp;<br>The course will start with two optional introductory days, September 9-10, covering the topics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complex numbers and complex exponentials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fourier transformation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connection between matter and waves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mathematical description of waves in one and three dimensions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend that students from Life science consider joining the introductory days, while students from Physical Sciences would likely not need to.<br>&nbsp;<br>The last day of the School will be formed as a small project exam. Upon passing the exam, the students will receive a course diploma. The course organizers have valued the School to 4 ECTS.<br>&nbsp;<br>The registration is closed!<br>&nbsp;<br>The school will accommodate maximum 60 students.
